A hard poke.....

Just one of the many pleasures that go along with RTS, otherwise known as Rubinstein Taybi Syndrome, otherwise known as really tough sh**..........
4 IV attempts in the ankles...... 2 tries in the right arm........
and after 5 tries in the left arm, the 6th, or I should say 12th attempt in the left arm worked........

So glad he was already sleeping when they did this.

=( Poor Alex!! I'm glad you were asleep too... but I do have to say... you have the cutest feet! I'll bet you love your new shoes, too!

HORRIBLE!!
Skye went through this, it was 12 pokes too with all failed IV attempts, I stopped them and waiting for the picc line to be placed that admission.
I hate having to watch it. UGH

I hate that part too! For one of Nathan's surgeries, I literally counted 24 IV attempts when he was in recovery, they even attempted it in his head. I think sometimes they take advantage of the fact that the kids are knocked out and don't give it the best try the first time. Essh, it sounds like I'm still a little bitter over the thing...

I'm glad he is home and doing well. No more surgeries for Bird!

Ugh, I hate IV pokes! Last time my Peanut was in the ER for seizures, it took 13 sticks to get an IV in. Then they didn't even USE it!!

Poor Alex. Luckily he was asleep! Although like the person above, sometimes I think they don't try as carefully when the kid is asleep. :(

I am shocked! I've never heard of such a terrible time getting IVs...I know they're hard, but come on!

I'm so glad this is it for him. And for you! Glad it turned out just as "simple" as they said .. at least in terms of recovery, right? Hope you are getting some rest, now. (We sure aren't!) :)

How sad. Sawyer has a picture like this as well. Maybe not as many pokes thought. Give him kisses from me. I'm glad he is recovering so well.
