What did you say???

If anything was going to get me out of this no blogging business it had to be big!
Tonight while eating, Alex got fussy, which can mean a few things: he is going to throw up, he is done in his chair, he is hungry, or he wants his book. Usually it is that he wants his book.
Before he gets his book, I sign book, and ask him if he wants his book.Usually he laughs, squeals, and stiffens telling me YES! That is exactly what I want!
Tonight I said what do you want, and he signed book!
I made him do it twice just to be sure, you know, cause sometimes I do that "he has a syndrome surely he didn't do that, thing" (don't worry I don't do that much),
His very first sign!
His very first step in expressing himself through communication!
Of course he knows lots of signs, he knows more, eat, cracker, bird, baby, bath, and then some, but wont sign them.
Motivation is what FINALLY got him to do it. Is there anything better to be motivated by? Here he is right after getting his book......................

That is so awesome! Another door has opened. Keep up the good work Jessica. Praying that with the arrival of spring ...good health for the whole family is on the way. Remember God is at work even when we are unaware.

That brought tears to my eyes! I clearly remember the first time my daughter (now age 3 1/2) did her first sign, and I was thrilled that she was finally able to communicate (she is deaf/hard-of-hearing, plus has a trach, so talking was hard at that point).

Have you looked at the Signing Time videos? They are amazing (signingtime.com). Once my daughter started to sign, we bought her the whole set, and this taught her hundreds of signs.

Congrats again!

Jessica, this so totally made my day! I feel so proud of him as if he was mine! I'm sure everyone who follows his blog feels the same way.

Hey, I have an idea - how about you come out to Houston to share a few glasses of wine tonight? His surgery is the 7th, right? Mallorie's is (I THINK) the 6th.

I promise I will not have ANY problem remembering Alex and your family on the 7th.

By the way - he doesn't LOOK sick. Is he doing better? I hope you are getting sleep.

Jessica, Thinking of you and your family today! I am going to get caught up on your blog and think of Alex and hoping for some good news come Wednesday.

On another note, way to sign! If you haven't gotten a Signing Time video you should consider. Max has learned so much. . . and it starts with one sign. Kelly F
