In 2007 our third son was born, we were expecting a healthy, normal birth, he immediately went into respiratory distress, and was flown to a NICU in St.Louis, Mo for possible heart lung bypass(ECMO). While in the NICU he was diagnosed with a very rare syndrome (Rubinstein Taybi Syndrome), this is the story of our journey, our new kind of normal.

Swallow Study

The swallow study went really well yesterday. We were able to see what we needed to see, and Mr. Alex did really well. It looks like baby food is safe to give him, so we are going to slowly add more to his diet. He also took some thickened liquid, and a little did enter his airway when he tried to take a breath and swallow at the same time, so he needs to learn how to coordinate his swallow still.
It was such an improvement from the swallow study in November, and his suck has improved drastically. he can hold the pacifier in his mouth all by himself, which I never thought would happen. Also when he took the liquid from the nipple I didn't have to do the chin cheek support that I had to do when he did take a bottle.
So no liquids for him right now, but he has improved, and we get to keep practicing with the baby food. Good report!
No more schedualed doctor appointments until April 15!!!!!!!!! We have never had more than a week off from those.

I am so happy to hear that Alex is doing so well. Every report that comes encourages me to keep on praying for this precious little boy. God is working on Him and on you. Isn't it good to know that God never quits on us but just keeps His hand of love on our lives. It is great news and I know you are thanking God for, this, another step forward.

SO excited to hear that the swallow study went well... possibly better than expected?! Enjoy this time off and see if you can't get out a little bit too :) Alex is such a lucky boy to have a mommy that loves him so much... each day you are demonstrating God's unconditional love to all 3 of your little ones... and your big boy too! (Adam!)

Love you.

That's wonderful news, and I'm sure a relief to you as well, to know that he can swallow some things safely. Now he'll do nothing but improve!
